Samenvatting
'The Fallen Generals' analyzes the 1000 senior German officers who died in World War II and its aftermath. Between the years 1939 - 1945, over 3,500 officers wore the uniform of General (or Admiral) in one of the branches of the German Armed Forces: the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the SS. The various chapters deal with officers killed in action, those executed as a result of their involvement in the July 20, 1944 plot to kill Hitler, Generals who committed suicide during the war or immediately after its end, officers tried and executed by the Allies after the war, and those who died in camps as prisoners of war. This book provides brief information about these 1000 officers, including dates of birth and death and the circumstances surrounding their death. Of particular interest is the chapter dealing with the surprising amount of Generals and Admirals killed in action - a number that exceeds 330.
