Argument 3
Matt 1:23
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us."
Jesus is Immanu-EL.
There are two viewpoints for the meaning of "Immanuel":
1.Jesus is literally God with us (Trinitarian viewpoint).
2. Jesus is the SIGN that God is with us.
To decide which viewpoint is Biblical we should turn to the Bible to understand what is meant by this name.
In the Bible there are numerous names that begin or end with EL (God).
Example of such biblical names are: EL-yashiyb, Micha-EL, Isra-EL, EL-jakim, Gabri-EL, etc.
For example:
The prophet who was named Samu-EL means: "God has heard".
In the Trinitarian view, this must mean that the prophet is literally God who heard.
In the biblical view, the name means that the birth of the prophet is the sign that God has heard.
