Samenvatting
René Magritte died in 1967, exactly fifty years ago, but Belgium’s most famous surrealist continues to seduce and surprise us with his confusing images of birds that are clouds, men in bowler hats floating in the air, a bleeding statue and a train coming out of an open hearth. Magritte unveiled: a biography in 50 pictures aims to penetrate the secret world of René Magritte and lift the veil to show the meaning of his works. Taken together, the fifty carefully selected works give a chronological overview of his oeuvre and his various stylistic periods. A mixture of iconic, world-famous paintings by the surrealist grandmaster along with works that are less wellknown but by no means less impressive.
