The bed that didn’t want to sleep
Once upon a time, there was a magical bed that lived in a cozy little room in a big house. This bed was special, for it did not want anyone to sleep in it. Every night, when a child would climb into the bed, it would bounce and creak, making it impossible for the child to get a good night's sleep.
The children in the house would try to make the bed comfortable, but no matter what they did, the bed just wouldn't settle. Soon, the children stopped trying to sleep in the bed and it was left alone, all by itself.
One day, a very tired little girl named Charlotte came to the house. She had been traveling for days and was in need of a good night's rest. When she saw the bed, she thought it looked so comfortable, but as soon as she climbed into it, it started to bounce and creak.
Charlotte was not discouraged, however. She was a clever girl, and she had a secret weapon: a bedtime story. She took out a book and started to read it in a soft, soothing voice. As she read, the bed started to settle, and soon it was perfectly still.
The bed was so enchanted by the story that it finally allowed itself to be used for its intended purpose. Charlotte slept soundly all night long, and when she awoke in the morning, she was refreshed and ready to face a new day.
From that night on, the bed allowed anyone to sleep in it, as long as they would read a bedtime story first. The children in the house were thrilled, and they took turns reading stories to the bed each night.
And so, the bed that did not want anyone to sleep in it became the most beloved bed in the house, all thanks to a tired little girl and her bedtime stories.
